Care work typically refers to the time and effort spent on meeting the needs of family members, including tasks such as preparing meals, providing care, and cleaning. Despite being essential for maintaining life and the reproduction of the labor force, care work is often not recognized as "work." This is why it is often described as "invisible labor" in literature.
We conducted a study titled "Equal Care Day: Mental Load Study: TED University Sample" in order to investigate what kind of thinking and planning/organizing labor lies behind these works, which occupy a significant part of daily life. We aimed to understand how care labor is shared between male and female couples. This quantitative study administered a survey to TED University employees in different positions. The research is significant as it examines how household labor, often invisible in Turkey's patriarchal society, acts as a barrier to women's participation in other areas of life.
Equal Care Day is celebrated under the Equal Care Initiative's (klische*esc e.V.) umbrella to make care work visible, acknowledge the social importance of care work, and advocate the equal distribution of care work between genders. We would be pleased if you participated in our event, which we will organize to achieve this goal in the context of Turkey, and to share the results of our study titled "Equal Care Day: Mental Load Study: TED University Sample" conducted by Assistant Professors Gülçin Con Wright and Aylin Çakıroğlu Çevik, under the moderation of Ezgi Alp.
